Caspian tries to pull up on various things, but rarely makes it. He doesn't like to shift his feet once he gets started, so they're often bent or too close together or something. Relying on upper body strength alone is sufficient when he pulls up on our fingers, but not when the bar or whatever is beneath eye level.

Neither Caspian nor I got a nap on Saturday , but he did sleep six hours that night.
Last night wasn't bad, except that Charlie left the bedroom door open when he got up to shower. The cats are always wild in the morning, and they came tearing into the room and jumped on the bed...waking me up 40 precious minutes before I had to.

Yesterday I was at a facial for an hour while Charlie kept Caspian. He thought Caspian was just gassy and didn't check his diaper until way after I got back. Well, the poo was 3 hours old, so it had soaked into the diaper -- front to back, side to side. He had diaper rash all over and sobbed when I tried to wipe him. I've never seen so much redness since we switched to cloth. I just stripped him down and plunked him in the tub. It was his first time in the big tub since he's been able to sit up alone, and he had a ball! We tried a new baby wash, in the hopes of not inflaming his eczema -- but it was worse! He even woke up with scaly patches on his face and eyebrows, which he's never had before. At least he's clean.

Praise God! I got to sleep from 11-2, 2:30-6:30, and 7:00-8:30!!! Boy, did that make a difference in how I felt this morning. I haven't been waking Charlie for diapers during Caspian's short nights this week, so he'll definitely owe me a nap on Saturday.

Just got back from the Lil' Angels sale at a local church (consignment). I only spent $8, but I got six 9-12 mo. shortalls, two bathtub books, and a mirror thing for tummy time/sitting up (kind of like a precursor to this thing). My mom stocked up for the future. They had some great stuff there -- and it went fast! I'm glad we went when we did instead of tomorrow.

I love how Caspian is starting to express more complex emotions now -- like "punish mommy for doing that thing I don't like, then forgive her."

Anyone else have a melodramatic baby? When he's nursing but super cranky-tired, Caspian will break off periodically and fake cry while slowly slapping his thigh! It's so hard for Charlie and me not to crack up when we see that.

I have got to start getting sleep. He was up every 1-1½ hours last night! He wasn't really even awake -- just whimpering and thrashing. I finally had to just sit up and hold him the rest of the night, so my back is killing me. I don't know what to do. It seems like he can only sleep long periods upright or in my arms.

You'd think it wasn't the same thing he's been staring at for the last seven months. This morning he took my n**ple out of his mouth, examined it, put it back in, took it out, examined it, started to put it back but then examined it further, put it back in...

Caspian has that Elmo Peek-A-Boo book, and when I give it to him in his swing and he lifts the flaps, I'll say "peek-a-boo!" He always starts and then gives me a big grin, because he was so focused on his book he forgot I was there. Then we have a good giggle together. There are three flaps on his favorite page spread, and he just lifted one partway then looked over at me to see if I would say anything. I told him he had to lift it all the way for me to do that. So he did, and we giggled some more. I can't wait until he's old enough to truly understand how much I love him.

Caspian loves his Nuby, but he just won't drink frozen milk out of it. I saw him "drink" out of it empty tonight and had to snatch it away -- he looked too grown-up!

Mr. Man is back to his poopy self after taking him off the Hyland's -- and he slept more than 2 hours in a row last night! Duh, self -- they have caffeine. I "slept in" a little, until my son decided to smack me and grab my face to wake me up. That was a good reminder to trim his nails.

We look outside a lot, and Caspian loves to stand on the bookcase beneath the window and bang on the pane. He can't wait until it's warmer here -- he's captivated by the outdoors.

If getting bitten was a marketable skill, I'd have the market cornered. After all this practice, I realize it's like riding the wave of a contraction -- if you can get over the initial blazing pain, the rest isn't so bad. I'm constantly surprised at the lack of blood being drawn. Oh, yeah -- tooth #2 is now visible, too. It's right next to #1. It hasn't poked through enough to be felt (thank God ), but it's right there.

Man, that tooth HURTS! You'd swear that thing was an egg tooth, it's so sharp. I actually surprised Caspian when I gasped this afternoon (after about three bites in a row), but I was able to play it off and he didn't freak. I'm so scared that I'll startle him into self-weaning. That's how my brother self-weaned -- he bit, mom screamed, and he was so scared he stopped nursing.

Last night when I got out of the shower, I called to Charlie to see how he and Caspian were doing but got no response. I went into the bedroom to make sure everything was okay and found this:


I love how Caspian's little hand is tucked up under Charlie's chin. He does that to me when we sleep too.


My sweet 6-foot-tall hubby was laying across the short end of the mattress, all scrunched up -- but with his arm protecting the baby.

I wonder if Hyland's Teething Tablets can make a baby constipated? I haven't changed my diet at all, but Caspian's been poopless two out of every three days this week. Last night he was crying and grunting without producing anything. I think we're going to try Tylenol at night for his tooth pain, instead of Hyland's. They have caffeine, and he has been waking up crying (in pain?) every two hours anyway.

Caspian is a big twitchy stinker when daddy changes him, but not mommy. He has been fighting naps, though, unless I hold him (and even then, it's a struggle to get him to fall asleep in the first place).

Has anyone else opened a diaper to change it "just in time"? In the last week, I've opened Caspian's diaper three times in time to see him just finishing urinating! Like, the fountain is just dying down or trickling out. (Sorry, TMI - I just thought it was hilarious. )

Caspian was up literally every two hours last night. Ugh. So Charlie let me take a nap today by keeping Caspian out in the kitchen with him -- and I slept for FOUR hours! I love my husband.

Caspian did the funniest thing this evening. I blew in his face in a short puff, but instead of his being startled, he brightened and leaned forward. I did it repeatedly, and he got more excited each time -- it was hilarious! We videotaped part of it.

Congrats to me -- first nipple bite! He bit me on the lip tonight, too -- his little toothlet dug in right behind my top lip! No blood yet.

Caspian used to hate tummy time with a passion, until one day he did a 180. Now he loves being on his tummy, because it means he has a chance to flip over. He loves rolling onto his back now. He used to watch Sesame Street on his tummy, but now he flips over almost immediately.

Yesterday, I put Caspian in a half-full basket of laundry to see what he'd do. He explored his surroundings, then grabbed the side of the basket in front of himself and pulled up into a stand! It's the first time he's pulled himself to a standing position.

We decided to go ahead and get a shopping cart cover, since we had store credit at OUaC. We got this one for $7.50.
